The Falls Prevention and Falls Risk Management Policy and eLearning Module has been developed to reduce the incidence of patient and resident falls and to minimise harm from falls when they occur.
The policy incorporates the following processes:
- Screening for the risk of falls
- Assessment of patients and residents at risk of falling
- Use of falls prevention strategies
- Management of falls risks
- Responding to falls
A fall is an unintentional descent of a patient or resident to the floor that may or may not result in an injury.
The Falls Prevention Program consists of multiple interventions. Clinicians and members of the workforce use it with the aim of minimising a patient or resident’s risk of falling. Patients, residents and carers are informed of the identified risks from falls and are engaged in the development of falls prevention plan.
